Makoto moved swiftly throughout her little bakery, filling out the orders and taking the special requests the customers sent her way. She had been surprised how big of a hit her bakery had been, but now she was wondering if she was ever going to get a break. She wasn't ungrateful, she was just, well, tired. Shaking her thoughts away, she stirred the batter for the carrot cake that a customer was going to pick up the next day. She peeked her head out from the back area to make sure there were no new customers. Nodding, she moved back to the cake and poured it into a pan then called out to her employee, "Rachel, man the front, okay?" The girl nodded as she moved out of the back room and to the register.
About thirty minutes later, Rachel came in handing Makoto a pile of new orders. Makoto looked at them and sighed, then began filling them out. She took them out to the front counter and handed them to the appropriate people and thanked them for their purchases. Shaking her head at Rachel, she snatched the nail file out of her worker's hand and chucked it in the trash. "I told you, stop primping yourself on the job." The girl rolled her eyes and Makoto shook her head angrily before walking back into the kitchen area. She was really going to need to find someone else as an employee. It wasn't like what Makoto was asking her to do was hard, she knew she shouldn't have hired her roommate who flunked out of culinary school. Deciding to ignore all other negative thoughts, Makoto threw herself back into her work.

Usagi loved her job, loved doing what she did on a daily basis, even if it meant that she didn’t get much time with her friends. Her life had been dedicated to saving people and it was something she couldn’t get away from; the desire to really help others ran through her veins thicker than anything else. She spent days thinking about a career and what she wanted to do with her days before becoming Queen. Her mother had suggested she become a teacher, if only to make sure she learned whatever she had missed in high school. But as much merit as the idea might have had, Usagi couldn’t bear to think about spending any more time in a school building, even if it was to educate others. Even the idea of elementary school was slightly repulsive.
Her father, bless him, had suggested nursing. At first, she didn’t think it was something she could have handled. But the more she thought about it, the more right it seemed. She wanted something that could make a difference and the field of nursing seemed all too perfect. Not only would she get to spend time with Mamoru, but she would be able to do the most amount of good in the shortest period of time. It was a win-win in her book. So she focused in on school, something that no one would have expected of her. She brought up her grades and studied hard, getting into the 3 year nursing program at the junior college. Now, she was a nurse, having worked for the past 6 months in an emergency department. It was thrilling and soothing all at once. Even in the hectic pace of things, Usagi was amazed at the peace it brought to her mind.
Now, dressed in her white scrubs, nursing hat in her jacket, Usagi was heading home by the way of Makoto’s bakery. She felt like an awful friend, not even have stopped by since she opened the place. It had been a real hit and Usa hadn’t even stopped by to try it. She had tried so many of Makoto’s delicious treats back in school—she should have been the first one at the door. How had she let her friends down so deeply? It wasn’t at all like her, and it was something that Usagi need to rectify. So she pushed open the doors, grinning from ear to ear at the sight. It was exactly what she expected from Makoto. “MAKO-CHAN!” She said, a little louder than intended. She bounced up to the counter, all the sweets in the case looking so incredible. Why had she waited so long to stop in and see her friend’s success?

Makoto continued with her busy day, but decided finally to take a moment to rest. Leaning her torso forward, she stretched until she heard the popping noise in her back. She continued stretching and soon realized how out of shape she felt, compared to her younger days. Longing for the old days, she sighed but went back to working. She searched the room for an empty bowl and saw one under the counter. Smiling successfully she bent down to pick it up.
“MAKO-CHAN!”
Makoto lifted her head up at the familiar voice, a small smile forming on the tips of her lips as she grabbed the nearest slice of cake she could find. She pushed the kitchen door open and saw her dear friend bouncing up and down on the counter, looking at the display case hungrily.
"Usagi-chan!" Mako grinned as she waved the dessert temptingly in front of her sweet-toothed friend. "How have you been Usagi? You look awfully hungry." She grinned, knowing her friend would more than willingly eat anything Makoto threw her way. Moving the slice of cake away from her friend abruptly Makoto smirked before pulling the dessert closer to her than Usagi. "You wouldn't want this...would you?" Makoto asked as if the realization of her friend wanting a dessert had just dawned on her.
